My little girls room...

In less than a week we will close on our new house.  The house is 4 years old and previously had renters in it, so all the walls are a stark white.  Needless to say, I am just itching to bust out a paint brush.  My imagination is running wild with all the things I want to do.  However, my pocketbook does not feel the same way.  But I keep dreaming anyway....

Moving into this house means that for the first time, our girls will NOT have to share a bedroom.  They are as equally excited about this as I am.  Nap time will be so much easier when they don't have a sister so close by to fight over toys play with.  But this also means that I am on the hunt for a kid friendly furniture that is both cute and not going to break the bank.  Addy currently has my old bedroom set from when I was a kid, but Reese is sleeping in a toddler bed and it is time for an upgrade.

So after much deliberation, we have decided that Reese will get Addy's bedroom set and Addy will get the new set.  (Don't ask about our reasoning behind this, there is just to much to explain and I will save you the boring details.)  So for Addy we have picked out this bed from Ikea.

I like the timeless look and with some fun colored bedding I think it will work really well.  Which brings me to my next dilemma.  Finding bedding that both Addy and I can agree on.

First of all, I might be a little particular in this area but there are a couple of things that I just won't do.  The first one is themes.  The kids outgrow them so fast and I have yet to find a theme that I like.  Sure, Addy would love to have a room with Princesses, or Elmo's but I just can't do it.  And sorry kiddo, but when you are old enough to start paying the bills around here you can do whatever you want, but until then I get the final say.  (Yikes, did that just come out of my mouth?  I am sounding more like my parents everyday...Scary!)

The other absolute no no is comforters.  I can't stand them.  I've had several in my life and they never kept me very warm.  Plus they are not very soft and squishy...not like a duvet.  Now that is something I can get behind! Or a nice quilt!  And I want my baby bees to be warm and comfy at night. So its either a duvet or a quilt.  That's what I have to pick from.

I will start off by saying that I love Potterybarn Kids!  There styles are soooo cute and fun.  There prices, not so much...but if money was not an object I would have grabbed up this set by now...

The only reservation I have is that its white.  And it will probably show the slightest bit of dirt really well.  But isn't it cute?  It's the right colors and everything.  But again, the pocketbook forces me to keep looking.

And then I found this set on overstock.com.  And when I saw the $53.99 price tag, I think my wallet did a little happy dance.  The colors are right on, at least from what I can tell in the picture, however I think it might be a bit to busy for what I want.  So the search continues....

After scouting out Target, Bed Bath and Beyond, Land of Nod, Kmart, Sears, you name it I've looked at it, I keep coming back to PB Kids.  I can't help it.  I am just drawn to them.  And just this morning I found this...

It's cute, it's simple and its on sale.  Score!  But her sister has polka dots on her bedding, and I want their rooms to be different.  Sigh...  Am I ever gonna find the right one?  What do you guys think?  I need some advice.

Check out my new digs!! (aka new blog design)

Ok so this pastors wife didn't quite feel up to going to church this morning.  Boo!  Don't worry it is nothing serious, but just enough to make me want to take a Sunday morning off and sleep in.  (Well as best you can with two little buzzing bees underfoot).  So as the kiddos are playing dress up in the other room I decided to work on the blog and try to make it a little more pleasing to the eye.  You know, make you want to stay and read a little big longer.  So I changed my layout and my blog header.  What do you think?  I know, cute bees right??

Thanks to this awesome tutorial I found at Clover Lane I was able to play around a bit.  It still needs some work and I hope to update with new pics periodically, change fonts, styles, etc.  Just to keep things fun.  Best part is, I did it all myself.  I learned something new, and I didn't have to pay anyone to do it.  I am sort of proud of myself.  Let me know what you think!

13 Days and counting....

until we close on our new house!!  And I haven't started packing yet. Oops!!  For the record, work has been kicking my rear this last week so I haven't had time to even think about packing.

So on this lazy Saturday morning, I have decided to bust out some boxes and start packing a few things that we won't need in the next couple of weeks.  Mainly toys, lots and lots of toys.  Ever since Christmas the toys have been taking over our little abode and this mama has had enough!  So in the boxes they go...(all of course while the kiddos are distracted with other stuff).  And no, I am not the Wicked Witch of the West for packing up my kids brand new Christmas toys.  They still get to play with those.  There would be a mutiny in this house and I am just not up for the battle.  Maybe after I have had more coffee...

Anyways, I am talking about all the toys they got to bring to the humble abode when we moved in, which they now no longer touch since they have better, cooler, more exciting toys from Christmas.  Makes we think I should just donate the box to charity and they will be none the wiser.  Hmm...decisions, decisions.

So on that note, I am signing off.  This mama has some serious packing to do!  Have a great weekend!

Adelynn

This is Adelynn.  Or Addy as we call her.  She is five.  She is my oldest, and I love her with all my heart.  I love her sincerity, her creativity, her honesty.  At the age of five she has moved across the country and left all her family and friends behind and she took it in such stride.  (Wish I could say the same for myself).  I am so proud of her!

She is the protector of her younger sister and often thinks she is in charge.  Sounds like someone else I know...  although I shall not mention any names, cough cough, Uncle Davis, cough.  She loves Barbies, Zhu Zhu Pets and anything that mommy has!  Often times I think she is a mini me.  Except for the obvious fact that she is a spitting image of her father.  And she is beautiful!

She is sensitive, sweet, and crazy smart and is always concerned for others.  We have been blessed in more ways than we can image with having her in our lives..  I thank God each and every day for giving her to us.

Addykins, I can't wait to see what kind of young lady you will grow up to become.  There is so much possibility out there and the world is your canvas.  Make it your own. Stand proud and know that mommy loves you!

Photos taken by my cousin Shane Fryer.  He is awesome!

Resolutions

Ok, so I have to admit that New Year's resolutions have never been my thing.  I have never really had the desire to want to do them before.  But this year is different.  Maybe it is the new surroundings but something in me really wants to change a few things.  So without further ado, here are my new years resolutions in no particular order...

Explore the city of Philadelphia
Spend more time outside.  Maybe take the kids on their first camping trip
Pay off our new vehicle by the end of the year
Save more
Spend less
Drink more water
Get back into exercising on a regular basis
Go back home to the Midwest to visit friends and family at least twice this year
Get organized and make sure everything has a place in our new home
Blog regularly
Cook more homemade foods
Finish reading the three different books I have already started

So maybe these are more like goals then resolutions.  And something tells me that this is just the beginning.  I will probably be adding more as time goes on.  But the year is long and this is not a race.  Plus I am hoping that putting these out there for the world to see is motivation for me to stick to it throughout the year.  So here goes... Let the resolutions begin!
